چکیده

Dioxin, 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD), one of the most toxic chemicals known, is an impurity arising in the manufacture of the herbicide 2,4,5-T. When 2,4,5-T is used to control unwanted vegetation in forest management, the impurity may find its way into the forest soil. The production, behavior, and significance of TCDD in the environment has become known only in recent years (DAVID 1971). TCDD is low in water solubility (0.2 ppb), immobile in soil, and in laboratory experiments has a half life of 1 year in soil (KEARNEY et al. 1972). Recently, CROSBY and WONC (1977) reported TCDD half-life of only a few hours on vegetation and a few days on soil in the presence of herbicide formulation and sunlight.

Toxicity of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) in aquatic organisms.

Herbicides are particularly important in modern forest management as foresters attempt to make fullest use of a constantly shrinking production base. In forestry, (2,4,5,-T) 2,4,5-trichloro-phenoxyacetic acid is used to control undesirable woody species that compete with more desirable timber-producing conifers for light, space, moisture, and nutrients. Herbicide applications can result in mark...

Fate and transport of 1278-TCDD, 1378-TCDD, and 1478-TCDD in soil-water systems.

The most toxic dioxin is 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (2378-TCDD), and obtaining comprehensive experimental data for this compound is challenging. However, several nontoxic isomers of 2378-TCDD exist, and can provide significant experimental evidence about this highly toxic dioxin. The goal of this study was to obtain experimental evidence for the fate and transport of 2378-TCDD in natur...

Differentiation-dependent induction of CYP1A1 in cultured rat small intestinal epithelial cells, colonocytes, and human colon carcinoma cells: basement membrane-mediated apoptosis.

Rat small intestinal epithelial cells and human colon adenocarcinoma cells cultured on Matrigel expressed the differentiation specific enzyme, sucrase-isomaltase, as determined by indirect immunofluorescence. Rat small intestinal epithelial cells, rat colonocytes, and human colon adenocarcinoma cells developed an altered morphology when cultured on Matrigel and became apoptotic within 24-48 h. ...

Data on AHR-dependent changes in the mitochondrial proteome in response to ,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin

The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) is a ligand-activated transcription factor that is the principal regulator of a cell׳s response to many polyaromatic hydrocarbons, such as 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD). To gain a better understanding of the impact of TCDD on the mitochondrial proteome, a stable isotope labeling by amino acids in cell culture (SILAC)-based proteomic analysis was ...

The teratogenic sensitivity to 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin is modified by a locus on mouse chromosome 3.

In an effort to understand how genetics can influence individual sensitivity to environmentally induced disease, we performed a linkage analysis to identify murine loci in addition to the Ahr locus that influence the incidence of cleft palate and hydronephrosis in developing mice exposed to the pollutant 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (dioxin). Administration of 64 microg/kg dioxin to C57B...
